Devon Almarinez
Designer • Mixed-Media Artist • Bay Area, CA
Devon Almarinez, a designer and mixed-media artist from Antioch, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area, is known for his dynamic fusion of history, culture, and contemporary art. With a deep passion for representing the culture, Devon's work spans the worlds of celebrity branding and urban art. Over the years, he has designed merchandise and brand identities for high-profile clients, including celebrities, athletes, and other major figures. His designs have been featured in magazines, television shows, and public spaces across the United States and internationally. Along the way, Devon discovered his true calling in contemporary mixed-media art, creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces that merge popular culture with raw, emotional expression.
Growing up, Devon was always a hustler, excelling in sports while finding creative ways to sell and trade goods at school and in the streets. He was named Male Athlete of the Year at Deer Valley High School and was later recruited by the University of San Francisco to play Division I soccer. In 2023, Devon was inducted into the Antioch Sports Legends Hall of Fame in recognition of his achievements as an all-around athlete. However, it was at the age of 13 that he first discovered his love for design, thanks to a copy of Adobe Photoshop that his brother gave him. Completely self-taught, Devon spent countless hours studying tutorials and pushing himself to learn everything he could to master the craft.
After transferring to Saint Mary's College in Moraga, California, to play soccer alongside his brother, Devon soon realized that his passion for design was calling him away from sports. An ankle injury and growing disillusionment with the American soccer scene eventually led him back to the University of San Francisco to focus on art and design.
During this time, Devon became immersed in the Bay Area music scene and learned the art of screen printing in San Francisco's Mission District. Every night, he printed custom T-shirts and personally delivered them to rappers and artists throughout the hip-hop community. This direct and personal approach led to merchandise deals with major stars. His hands-on, grassroots method would eventually become one of the defining elements of his career.
As Devon built his reputation in the Bay Area, he quickly became known for pioneering a sports-style aesthetic in merchandising. His work caught the attention of players from the San Francisco 49ers, Golden State Warriors, and Oakland Raiders, many of whom he approached personally with his designs. His clothing was soon sold in stores throughout the Bay Area, and his name became synonymous with cutting-edge sports and pop culture fusion.
Just weeks before graduating from college, Devon met Ya Boy, an artist who had recently signed with The Game in 2006. This connection brought Devon to Los Angeles, where he began working on everything from branding and logos to merchandise, photography, and social media for artists. His network grew rapidly, and Devon soon found himself working with top-tier producers, engineers, entertainers, and celebrities on a variety of creative projects.
Back in the Bay Area, Devon's passion for painting began to grow when he started creating canvas artwork, which he sold locally and gifted to athletes. One of his pieces caught the attention of Vernon Davis, the former tight end for the San Francisco 49ers, who invited Devon to showcase his work in his gallery. This collaboration led to additional opportunities, including the creation of large-scale murals and artwork for events such as a Golden State Warriors charity auction, where his pieces sold out.
In a pivotal moment, San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh saw Devon's work featured on Vernon Davis's social media and invited him to Levi's Stadium on its debut night. Devon surprised Harbaugh with a custom painting on the field. This experience reinforced Devon's belief that the personal connection behind the artwork is what makes it truly special.
“Seeing people’s reactions to my work, watching them smile and even cry, is the most rewarding part. That’s why I do it. It’s not just about the art. It’s about the connection it creates.”
Over the years, Devon has had the honor of meeting and creating artwork for legends such as Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Mike Tyson, Joe Montana, Floyd Mayweather, and many others. His art has become a way to connect with icons, express culture, preserve history, and pay homage to the people who have shaped the world.
Devon's ultimate goal is to continue pushing the boundaries of contemporary art while creating meaningful work that celebrates culture, history, and the people who inspire it. Every piece is created with intention, combining powerful storytelling, detailed craftsmanship, and a personal connection that extends far beyond the canvas.
“If you give, you shall receive. That has always been my motto. The reactions I receive, the stories people share with me, and the emotions they feel when they see my work are what keep me going. It’s not just about creating art. It’s about honoring a journey, preserving a moment, and creating something that will live on.”
